The Nasdaq 100 has been rebalanced and three stocks added, Palantir PLTR, MicroStrategy MSTR and Axon Enterprise while removing Illumina, Super Micro, and Moderna.
The Nasdaq-100 Index includes the 100 largest non-financial companies listed on Nasdaq. The index is rebalanced once a year in December, with additional rebalancing opportunities each quarter. However, special rebalances can occur outside of this schedule if needed to address overconcentration in the index.
The changes on the Nasdaq-100 Index will be effective before the market opening on December 23, 2024.

Axon Enterprise AXON, Palantir Technologies PLTR and MicroStrategy MSTR will be added to the Nasdaq-100 Index.
Palantir Technologies PLTR has a market cap of $173.21 billion. The stock price is 343% higher since the beginning of the year. Palantir back in September 2024 joined the S&P 500 $SPX, replacing American Airlines AAL.
MicroStrategy MSTR has a market cap of $97.94 billion. MSTR stock soared over 547% in 2024 as the heavy bitcoin investing company followed the rally to $100,000 in the number one cryptocurrency
Axon Enterprise AXON has a market cap of $49.48 billion. Axon Enterprise stock is 149.65% higher YTD.
Which companies are being removed from the Index?
As a result of the changes in the index, the following three companies will be removed from the Index: Super Micro Computer SMCI, Illumina ILMN, and Moderna MRNA.
Super Micro Computer SMCI facing accounting violations as market capitalization stands at 21.34 billion, and the stock is 28.23% higher since the beginning of the year.
Illumina ILMN has a market cap of $22.82 billion, added 6.32% since the beginning of 2024.
Moderna MRNA, maker of the Covid vaccines, market cap on Friday was $16.1 billion as the price has lost over 57% of its value since the beginning of the year.
